Tannerin, Theremin: I want one
On our new album No Time, I used a whistle sound with portamento for the track 'A Salty Dog', But would it not be much nicer to have used a real Tannerin? A what? That's right: a 'Tannerin'. The Tannerin is the Theremin's little brother, the sliding sine wave instrument used by Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys on 'Good Vibrations'. Instead of moving your hands in the air to get your desired pitch and volume as you would do with the real Theremin (way too difficult for me...), you can simply use a little copper slider on a ruler to get your pitches right (more or less).
A very helpful clunky drawing of a keyboard is pasted on the top of the cabinet, so you can get an idea of approximately where you're going, pitch-wise. If anyone has a 'Tannerin' sitting idly in their attic or basement: please give me a call. I'll come and help you get rid of it!
